Abstract
|
|
|
Ten cases of surgically treated Patent Ductus Arteriosus, operated in Seoul National University Hospital. were presented:
Sex ratio was.7¢¥to 3, showing female predominence. Range of the age was between 3 and 14 years. Nine cases without pulmonary, hypertension were operated on succesfully with excellent postoperative results one pulmonary hypertension case with, pulmonary artery pressure of 100/40 mmhg expired- 30 hours postoperatively suddenly with acute respiratory insufficiency. Autopsy showed complete obstruction of the bilateral bronchial trees with thick bronchial secret and pulmonary artercole sclerosis.
The advantage of early operation before pulmonary hypertension development and danger of undue postponement of surgery were discussed along with general consideration on this, inalfororation, whose operation has not been popular in this country yet.
Low operative risk, good postoperative prognosis, and dangerous. complicatios of unoperated cases were: mentioned briefly, recommening timely referral to surgery and:- proposing interest¢¥ in this -congenital defect among the Korean general practitioners.
